One day late but oh well…..Wed we went to the train station to see how things were running. They are almost up to 80% so Steve and I are thinking of going to Bruges, Belgium next week and this weekend we are all planning to do a couple day trips. One to the historic town of Haarlem and the other day to a windmill village that starts with a Z. Next we ate lunch at the dept store….it was really good! Jaime and I had chicken stir fry…you bowl up your own vegetables and they cook the chicken, add your vegetables and serve it over rice or noodles. We both chose rice….Jaime had the sweet sauce and I had the medium hot sauce. Nummy! Steve had a tuna sandwich and we all shared a fresh fruit salad.
Then we used our museum passes and toured the Willet-Holtuysen museum. It is a canal house that was given to the town of Amsterdam in the late 1800’s. It was built in the 1600’s and was cool to see what they looked like inside.
Then we went to the Russian Heritage Museum. Lots of paintings of tsars and their wives and the clothes they used to wear.

Grocery shopping for our Christmas Eve meal was next on the agenda. We are making pasta with chicken and vegetables in a red sauce…hopefully it works.
We ate supper at a local spot called the Burger Patio. Not sure what a burger is here because there were none on the menu but it was a cool place. They served us crunchy buns with olive oil and a pepper-tomato paste and raw vegetables with dip. Also, they gave us a pitcher of water – not a norm here. Steve had stewed rabbit with a cabbage roll, Jaime has veggie lasagna and I had a bowl of tomato basil soup – it was soooo good! For dessert, we shared a brownie with a scoop of chocolate ice cream.
Last night, Jaime was the first one to fall asleep. I think we are wearing her out!!
Merry Christmas Eve! Be safe in your travels!
